Michael Keaton day: The Founder/Spotlight
Today I watched two films that have been out for a while on Amazon Prime, both starring Michael Keaton, in my opinion one of the greatest actors around.
The first was The Founder, a very good film about the story behind that burger chain we all know and love, McDonald's. It was really eye opening and in a way sad to see the true story behind McDonald's success. Michael Keaton plays a milkshake machine salesman with big aspirations.
He gets an order from two brothers who have just opened the first McDonald's restaurant and he goes to see what all the fuss is about. The film then shows how he literally steals their business and promotes himself as the founder of the company. A brilliant story but an eye opener into the cut throat world of business. Five stars.
The second film stars Michael Keaton, Rachel Mcadams and Mark Ruffalo, better known for being the actor who plays the Hulk. This isn't a superhero movie though, if you want to see Michael Keaton in a superhero movie watch Birdman or Spiderman Homecoming. This is a very upsetting but avid watch of a film. It tells the story of a team of newsaper reporters investigating abuse of children by Catholic Priests in the city of Boston. Having gone to a Catholic school myself as a child I found this very upsetting and hard to watch but the fact is, it happened.
This film is based on a true story and it's one that needs to be told so something like this hopefully never happens again. There is a shock as well when it is revealed how many places around the world the same thing has happened. Truly terrible. Five star movie easily.
Both of these movies show what a brilliant actor Michael Keaton is and I strongly recommend both of them.
