Wonder Woman: For once DC beats Marvel!
I actually saw this movie before I started doing a film blog, however it is that good that I've just watched it again and it's still brilliant!
DC have always made good superhero movies, Suicide Squad, Batman vs Superman, Justice League etc, but never great superhero movies. Certainly never as good as Marvel and that I'm sure has been a huge source of frustration to them.
With Wonder Woman they didn't just crack it, they smashed it out of the ballpark! I don't know if it's because it was a female director (Patty Jenkins), so possibly more emphasis on emotion rather than just action and an actual storyline for once, or just because Gal Gadot (Batman vs Superman, Justice League) and Chris Pine (Star Trek) are very very good actors. Probably it's a combination of both.
I think what also helps is this movie is set in the second world war so their can't be an emphasis on technology like there is in every other DC and to be fair Marvel movie.
It's the origin story of Wonder Woman but it is so much more than that. It's the second world war, it's action, it's emotion and it's a great story all rolled into one.
Lots of you will have already seen this movie but, if you haven't, even if you don't like superhero movies I almost guarantee you will love this film! DC why can't you make more movies this good? Hopefully someone at DC reads this and picks up the phone to director Patty Jenkins for the next DC movie. Patty is contracted to do Wonder Woman 2 in 2019 but she should be doing a whole lot more. Strongly recommended. Five stars.
