The Foreigner. Brilliant film!
I've always been a huge fan of Jackie Chan. His martial arts skills in film are the best I've seen from any movie martial artist, as demonstrated in one of my favourite comedy movies, Rush Hour, which he co-starred in with Chris Tucker.
Now onto Pierce Brosnan. Ever since his epic stint as James Bond I've been a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan. So to have both of them in the same movie was mouth watering to me!
On top of that it's directed by the very talented Martin Campbell, who directed Brosnan in a different action movie, namely GoldenEye, where he played the world famous James Bond. On top of that he also directed Daniel Craig in his first Bond movie, Casino Royale. So no complaints with that directing pedigree.
Nothing dissapoints in The Foreigner, which combines all three of these outstanding talents. I won't give away too much of the plot because to do that would be to give away the movie which is freely available on Netflix (at least in the UK), so that wouldn't be right but I will say Chan plays a father out to avenge the death of his daughter. You can imagine what happens next. The action never stops.
What amazed me about this movie is that, even at 63 Jackie Chan can still do the incredible martial arts stunts that make him the character we know and love. His physical ability is that of a man half his age so fair play. Such a talented Actor. On top of that Brosnan goes back to his Irish roots with a very strong Northern Irish accent.
The explosion scenes are astonishing and also disturbing as they depict terrorist attacks that sadly happen to this day although maybe from different sources now but terrorism is still terrorism and my thoughts will always go out to anyone affected by events like those depicted in this film.
In conclusion this movie is well directed, with incredible action and fighting scenes and, on top of that both Brosnan and especially Chan come across a lot younger then they are and the scenes Chan can still do are incredible. This film deserves all the plaudits it gets. If you've got Netflix watch it and if you haven't sign up for the free trial just to watch this movie! One of the better action films I've seen that earns a very well deserved 5 stars. :-)
