Top ten favourite films!
I thought I would do something a bit different on this post, which instead of doing a movie review, I thought I'd publish my top ten films (currently) and briefly explain why. I'm sure everyone has their own top ten so it would be interesting to hear yours. Ok, let's go:
1) Skyfall. My all time favourite Bond film. Daniel Craig in his element. Dame Judi Dench at her best and a complete head case of a villian. When he takes his teeth out and shows what he's become that he blames MI5 for, wow. Non stop action from the start to the finish, it introduces moneypenny as well and the train scene is brilliant. Outstanding movie.
2) Titanic. One of the most moving, emotional, well directed films I've ever seen. James Cameron at his best. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Wow. Epic, epic love story. The scene towards the end where she had to let him go bought tears to my eyes. Amazing movie.
3) Spectre. The second best bond film I've ever seen. Again with Daniel Craig as bond it brings together elements of the previous movies into one amazing finale. I am so glad he's making one more bond film. I hope the 25th anniversary bond movie will be as good as I have said it in my mind.
4) Pulp Fiction. 'Mmm this is a tasty burger' said Samuel L Jackson before killing the guy. Brilliant. Him and John Travolta combine to make an amazing hitman style movie. It is directed by Quentin Tarantino, who is easily the best director of all time. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
5) Dunkirk. This movie only came out this year but it had everything. Action, emotion and some of the scenes especially the plane fighting scenes you actually felt like you were there. It gives you a real insight to what it was like to be there at the time. Incredible movie everyone should watch.
6) Kill Bill. Another absolutely spectacular movie, split into 2 parts annoyingly. I remember at the time there was a 1 year gap between the two parts being released and it was so frustrating because you just wanted to know what was going to happen! Uma Thurman is brilliant and again directed by the amazingly talented Quentin Tarantino it was a winning combination. The fight scene with Lucy Liu will live long in the memory.
7) Battle of the Sexes. Another movie only out this year but another film deserving of a place on my top ten. Steve Carrell is brilliant in a serious role for him but still with some comedic moments. In fact his second serious role after the big short, which is another outstanding movie. It also stars the highly talented Emma Stone from La La Land. Brilliant movie.
8) The Big Short. A gripping movie again starring Steve Carrell but also Ryan Gosling (La La land) and Christian Bale. It documents the collapse of wall street due to millions of Americans defaulting on their Mortgages. Only these few saw it coming. It is absolutely brlliant and deserves to be in the top ten due to the outstanding acting alone.
9) The Wolf of Wall Street. Again another wall street movie, but this one is directed by the amazing Martin Scorcesse and it is one of his best. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a guy with big aspirations, he starts his own brokerage firm and makes an absolute fortune. The results are an hilarious but real (as it's based on a true story), insight into wall street. It certainly would put me off investing!
10) Captain America: Civil War. No Daniel Howick top ten would be complete without a superhero movie and this is the best of the best. It pits Captain America directly against Iron Man and the results are brilliant. It introduces Spider Man to the equation and includes an epic battle between superheroes. Outstanding from start to finish. Brilliant movie.
So, that's my top ten which I'm sure will change as new movies come out, but what's yours?
