Molly's Game

Firstly, I always love movies that are based on true stories because they always feel more real. If you know something really happened it feels different. You start to think 'wow, this isn't fantasy this really happened'.

This is the case with the very good movie Molly's Game. The main star is Jessica Chastain, who plays Molly. Molly is a former U.S. ski athlete who unfortunately had an accident that scuppered her chances of competing in the olympics. Due to this, she had to find a different way to make money, and, in her case that was by running an extremely high stakes poker game.

The game itself features a very high class level of actors, all playing bit parts as professional poker players. One of the most well known of these is the very talented Michael Cera, star of movies such as the very funny Superbad. It's astonishing to see how much extremely rich people will bet on a simple game of poker.

The movie also stars the extremely talented British actor, Idris Elba who needs no introduction to people on the British side of the atlantic, but is now making his name in American movies, this being the latest one.

The director of this movie does a great job, he really captures the suspense of the movies subject matter and, with certain camera angles the sexiness of it too!

Kevin Costner who also needs no introduction has a small part as Molly's father and, even in his small part in this movie, clearly demonstrates he hasn't lost any of the acting skills that made him great.

In short, this is a riveting watch, and you are on Molly's side throughout as she tries to make her fortune until it all goes wrong. The ending is great and made me smile but don't worry, I won't give it away.

I strongly recommend this movie, especially if you like gambling. Four stars awarded.
