Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

***Caution, depending on your opinion, this review may contain a spoiler, but it's necessary for the review***

I've always found it annoying when films have long titles, when you're talking to people about the movie they are so hard to remember and you then up just shortening them. For the rest of the review I'm just going to call this movie Billboards for ease of use!

Billboards is a brilliant movie, firstly Woody Harrelson is in the film. I have always been a big fan of his, especially since his amazing performances in the planet of the apes trilogy. In this movie he plays the chief of police in the town of Ebbing. As usual he gives an outstanding performance.

However, he is not the star of this movie, this honour goes to Frances McDormand who literally excels as the mother of a daughter that was raped and murdered. I remember Frances from the outstanding movie Fargo, and yet again she delivers a performance that is Oscar worthy.

Many months ago her daughter was murdered yet the killer still hasn't been found. Due to this she hires three billboards on the edge of her town and the messages on them accuse the police of not doing enough to find the killer.

As you can imagine, the billboards cause uproar as things gradually start to fall apart in the town of Ebbing, all stemming from Frances character and the local police force. I don't want to give the plot away but there are many exciting twists and turns and it's a riveting watch. Very well directed too.

That said, it achieves four stars rather than five stars due to its annoyingly open ended ending. A movie doesn't have to wrap everything up but this really annoyed me, especially when I've invested my time watching the film.

That said it's still a very good film, well worthy of it's four star rating. Enjoy. Four stars.
