Maze Runner: The Death Cure
***Warning, this review may contain spoilers but they are necessary for the review***
I have been a massive fan of The Maze Runner series from day one, I've even got a huge poster on my living room wall from the original movie, that's how much I enjoyed it.
The funniest thing is, when I saw the original film, I never realised it was going to be part of a trilogy of movies. I had never heard of The Maze Runner books, I just saw the trailer and thought 'kid trapped in a maze, looks exciting, I'll watch that'.
It was only at the end of the first movie, as it moved into The Scorch Trials that I realised there was much more to this story and it wasn't about just kids trapped in a maze, it was about a virus, a disease destroying all mankind and only a few immune kids had the cure.
The question is, if the whole of humanity is threatened would you sacrifice or treat poorly the lives of a few to possibly save the many?
This is the question that this film series has asked and it's an interesting one because if a few people could save many is it worth it?
The final movie provides the epic conclusion to this story as they infiltrate the city where their friend is being held and experimented on to try and find the cure. It also has incredible twists and turns which are so hard to talk about without giving the game away.
What I can say is not everyone that you thought was dead is dead and that virus goes where you wouldn't think possible.
The finale leads to a conclusion that didn't surprise me, and also to another annoying open ended ending. (Why do movies keep doing this?). The most annoying thing about this ending is that we know it'll never be resolved as this is the last in the series. Well, unless something changes.
In conclusion, it is nail biting, it is exciting, it is really good but it's not the brilliang ending to an epic series I was hoping for and again it's too open ended for my liking.
You obviously need to see the first 2 films before watching this movie and if you have you need to see this one to discover the resolution. If you haven't seen the first 2 then don't see this as you wouldn't have a clue what's going on. In fact even watch part 2 again just before seeing this one to refresh your memory. I wish I had done that.
A very good movie, and a must see for all fans of the franchise. Four stars awarded.
