Veronica
Firstly, let me start by saying I don't usually watch foreign language subtitled films. In fact I hate having to read the subtitles and at the same time try to follow what is happening on screen.
You can imagine my dissapointment when a film I had been recommended turned out to be a subtitled one. I was going to not even bother watching it, but I'm so glad I did.
Unlike most of my reviews, I can't comment on the director or the actresses in the movie because they aren't ones I have heard of and, this being a foreign language movie may never be ones I see again. So instead I'm going to concentrate on the movie itself.
I love horror movies, I get uncomfortable watching them sometimes, especially the type where it is so scary that it's hard to look at the screen and you end up peeking at the screen through your fingers. It's not easy watching films like that, but if a horror movie does that to you, it's done it's job.
This movie definitely does that but on top of that, what makes it worse is it's based on a true story. It's a big life lesson, don't mess with Oujia boards. I wouldn't ever touch one personally, because I've seen too many movies about the horrors that can happen if you do.
The movie starts off with Veronica and two of her friends doing a seance during a solar eclipse, what follows is hugely disturbing and with a big twist too. I can't really say much more as it would give too much away.
What I can say is evil follows Veronica home after she does that seance and things get more and more terrifying and disturbing. Another thing that makes this movie scary is the fact it involves children in paranormal style danger. It makes the audience very uncomfortable with the fact that all this is happening to kids not adults. Creepy and horrid. It's a movie that could live long in the memory.
In conclusion, thankyou to the person that recommended me to see this film, it was an eye opener as it showed me that foreign language films can be just as good as American blockbuster type movies. Disturbing, creepy, tough to watch and simply a brilliant piece of film making. It's on Netflix now so watch it if you like horror movies, you won't be dissapointed. Well worth the very impressive 5 stars I'm giving it. 5 stars awarded. Easily.
