Avengers: Infinity War
***Warning, contains spoilers, but there is no way of reviewing this movie without them***
Wow, just wow. I had a feeling that Avengers: Infinity War was going to be good, but I had no idea how good. This movie goes straight in at around number 5 in my greatest movies of all time list, but I won't watch it again.
Why? I hear you ask? Well it's just too sad. At the end of this movie some of the audience members were crying, quite loudly as well.
This is the first movie I've been to where virtually every member of the cinema audience stayed in their seats throughout the entire ending credits in stunned silence. By the way, trust me, you need to stay to the end there's a very important bit of film at the end that you can't miss!
So why won't I watch it again? Well, here comes the spoiler and you have been warned! Superhero movies are supposed to be happy! The good guys are supposed to win! That's how superhero movies work.
Not in this movie though. Marvel how could you do what you did? I know you felt the Marvel universe was getting bloated but to have a mass cull of characters (and I won't tell you who dies) is just in my opinion too extreme and upsetting. When you hear one character saying 'No I don't want to go' as he's being rubbed out of existence it literally brings tears to your eyes.
This is a brilliant, brilliant movie. It all centres around Thanos, played by Josh Brolin who is also going to play another bad guy called Cage in the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie. I now know why Deadpool 2 is being released so close to this movie. Deadpool movies are always funny, well hilarious so Marvel have realised that we will all need cheering up after the ending of this movie. My goodness it's sad.
Thanos is on a mission to obtain the six infinity stones, which when he gets them he will be able to erase half of the population of the universe with a click of his finger. He believes the universe is overcrowded and there are only so many resources available so, in his opinion mass genocide is the option. Awful. How could anyone do such a thing? Yet it does happen sadly, you only need to look to World War 2 to learn that.
There are so many Marvel characters in this movie, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man to name but a few. And they all compliment each other and they all work together to try and defeat Thanos. I'm not going to tell you whether they succeed but the fact I am so down in the dumps about how much this movie upset me probably gives you a clue hence why I warned about spoilers.
At the end of the day though, upset or not it is a spectacular movie in every way. The director has done a great job with the fight scenes, the sound is dramatic, the lighting is a bit dark at times but overall I can live with that. It is an absolutely epic movie. The fact the characters go from place to place just makes it better. It's outstanding. Just so so sad.
I won't watch this movie again, it's too upsetting and I hope in future Avengers movies that things will turn out happier. However Marvel have achieved the mass cull of characters they clearly wanted so I assume in future movies new characters will be introduced.
Sad, upsetting and hard to watch but truly, truly epic. Easily fits in the middle of my top ten movies of all time. A must see and I would see it before reading my review. Or any review for that matter. Epic. Five stars awarded.
