Firstly, I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. The Rock has become one of the greatest action movie actors of recent times, especially since the awesome remake of Jumanji. What a transition from wrestling to movies, although a few others have done so such as John Cena, who was hilarious in the Daddy's Home movies.

Unfortunately, I was dissapointed. The direction by Brad Peyton left a lot to be desired. There were a lot of continuty errors such as the way Naomie Harris accent kept changing for a few seconds back to her British accent then back to her American one, the director should have picked up on that.

Also there were incredibly unrealistic moments. Some of the things the characters survived you just wouldn't have in real life. Yes, that would be fine in a fantasy/science fiction movie, but this was supposed to be an action movie with a realistic storyline. How do I mean realistic? Well, it's supposed to be a lesson on not messing about with nature. Giant Gorillas is fine, but there's a scene where The Rock and Naiome Harris character ride a collapsing building down to the ground in a broken helicopter and emerge without a scratch on them. You cannot defy gravity!

A further example is when The Rock is shot in the stomach and is perfectly fine and says 'I guess she missed all the vital organs'. Really?

That's the other issue, the storyline. It started with the very weak premise of genetic experiments gone wrong and didn't get much better from there. It didn't feel as real a lesson on not to mess with nature as it should have and that was such a shame.

I've watched other intelligent animal action movies about not messing with nature, such as Planet of the Apes, and they had an engrossing story as well as the undeniably outstanding special effects. I suggest you watch this movie in 3D if you are going to see it as that will greatly improve the movie due to the awesome special effects. The sound was dramatic too.

My other dissapointment was Naomie Harris, who, as she plays Moneypenny in the recent James Bond movies has become one of my favourite actresses. So, why was I dissapointed with her? Well, it's not her fault but, she's a British actress and she was made to put on the worst fake American accent I have ever heard. Really high pitched and annoying. If you want to see a British actress do a good American accent, look at Karen Gillan in her movies.

So, Harris was wasted in this movie, which is a shame as her British accent is, for want of a better word, sexy.

It isn't all bad, The Rock makes the best of a bad script and does his usual awesome strong man stuff, plus the special effects are incredible. For this reasons it's better than a 3 star movie but certainly not good enough for a 4 star.

In conclusion, if you like special effects movies then see this in 3D, but don't go expecting brilliance or you will be dissapointed. I'm sad and miserable writing this review as I expected more from a movie with the awesome actor The Rock in it. Very average movie, 3 and a half stars awarded.
