Sicario

So, a few weeks ago at the cinema I saw a trailer for the sequel to the excellent film Sicario. I hadn't seen the original in ages, well before I started doing this blog, so I decided to refresh my memory by re watching that movie and I'm so glad I did as it had been so long since I saw the original i had forgotten most of it. I feel like re-watching the original has set me up for the sequel.

The original movie features 4 actors I think are epic and I have a lot of respect for. I will go through them one by one. Firstly, you have Emily Blunt, the brilliant actress from The Girl On The Train. In this movie she plays an outstanding role as an FBI agent who does things by the book. On top of that as her partner you have Daniel Kaluuya from the movie get out.

Then, you have the very talented Benicio Del Toro who always seems to be the bad guy in movies and the talented Victor Garber, best known for his role in Titanic.

In my eyes though, the actor that has gained the most out of this movie is Josh Brolin. Since this film he's getting all sorts of roles. He is Thanos in the new Avengers movie, he's Cage in the new Deadpool movie and he and Benicio will be in the sequel to this film. I'm actually sad that Emily Blunt (tiny spoiler) won't be in the sequel as I think she is a brilliant actress.

So, what's the movie like? Well in one word: outstanding. It is all about the cartels and similar that deliver drugs from Mexico to the USA and the underhanded and probably illegal tactics the Americans use to stop them. It is a movie you cannot take your eyes off and that's why I cannot wait for the sequel!

The director has definitely got the best out of the cast, although I do have an issue with the lighting as I think some of the tunnel scenes are too dark. I mean, I know a tunnel is supposed to be dark but I personally would like to see more than we do during those scenes. However this is a minor quibble in an outstanding movie.

Where i think the best comes through though is the sound. During the different scenes, especially the more violent scenes the dramatic music keeps you on edge and really adds to the overall movie. To whoever did the sound I say great job!

This movie is brilliant and you won't want to take your eyes off the screen. I can't wait for the sequel but the original has well earned the five stars I'm going to give it. A terrific movie, five stars awarded. :-)
