Halloween
***Warning, contains spoilers***
I hadn't seen all the movies in the Halloween series, mostly because I was too young when the first few films came out. However I did start from Halloween H20.
When I saw the trailer for this movie I was really excited, it looked awesome. However i did some research before that and I'm so glad I did. The new Halloween movie ignores all the movies except the first Halloween movie. It is a direct sequel to the original. You have to take a leap of faith and pretend the sequels didn't happen.
So, yesterday I watched the original Halloween movie and it was really good. Just like the other Halloween movies, not scary just entertaining as you watch Michael Myers at work and then the scared Jamie Lee Curtis as the babysitter terrified and realising that the bogeyman is indeed real. That movie I will give five stars too, brilliant movie.
I also want to say that it's sad they don't make horror movies like this anymore. It's so simple, serial killer with a knife killing people. These days horror movies have to be psychological. Don't get me wrong, I like that sort of horror movie, but I also like this type of movie too and sadly, the last movie like this I can remember before the movie I saw today was the scream movies, so you can see how long it's been. I hope they make more movies in this style in the future.
What is really cool is that Michael Myers in this movie is played by the same actor as the one that played him in the first movie. Truly awesome.
So, you MUST see the original Halloween movie before seeing this film. I can't stress that enough. The whole of this movie links to the original, even the style of the credits. I'm not surprised as I know Carpenter had a hand in this movie just like the first one although he didn't direct this one. Even things that happen in this movie link to the original.
The difference in this movie is that Curtis character is a bad-ass. She's been waiting for this day, she's booby trapped her house, she's got guns etc, she obviously knew he was going to get out.
Michael has been housed in a secure facility for the last forty years and now, whilst he was being transferred he escapes.
Compared to modern horror movies this isn't scary, but you know what, it's brilliant. You can't take your eyes off the screen trying to work out out who will be Michael's next victim. I'm also very glad that an actor from Halt and Catch Fire, one of my favourite t.v series is also in this movie.
The point of this movie is to finish off the Halloween series, to provide closure and it does, with an epic battle between Curtis character and Myers. I won't spoil what happens but it's awesome.
In conclusion this is a great watch and well worth the five stars that i am giving it. But make sure you've watched the original movie first. Five stars awarded.
