Overlord

***May contain spoilers***

I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. The trailer looked incredible and, even though it didn't star actors that are household names it just looked so good I wanted to see it. It has war, action and lots and lots of horror. All brilliant elements in a movie.

I have to say Overlord is also released at a very relevant time of year. To release a war movie with Rememberance Sunday around the corner is very appropriate. In fact I'm going to get literally my only criticism out of the way now and that is that there didn't seem to be any British people in the movie. It was all Americans and some French and German too, judging by the accents. Us Brits were probably the biggest army in the Second World War so we certainly should have been in this movie, however I appreciate the fact that in a film made by Americans, Americans tend to have a 'we saved the world' attitude so I'm not surprised us Brits didn't really feature. However that is a minor complaint.

The movie is quite simply disturbing and also epic. This movie is not for the faint hearted, seriously. It is the sort of film that could give you nightmares. How they got the experimented on characters to look that realistic I just don't know but kudos to the Director and the make up department as it really is horrific!

The movie is set towards the end of the Second World War, when a group of soilders parachute in to destroy a radio tower in a small French town, by doing so they will deeply hamper the Nazis detection efforts of their planes. So, it starts off as your typical, but still gripping, war movie. However it quickly turns into something far more disturbing and sickening and truly shows the Nazis for the pure evil that they are. I can only hope that something like this doesn't ever happen again.

It is known that the Nazis used to experiment on people, there have been numerous stories about evil Nazi doctors and the tests they used to do on poor innocent civilians etc. This movie shows that in all its horrebdous and horrific gory.

Now, I'm not certain how historically accurate the movie is but it really is a lesson to us all about the horrors the Nazis in the Second World War unleashed on the world.

In this French village there is a church, and in this church well, more accurately below this church there is a network of caves and in this network of caves are horrific experiments going on to turn people into horrific creatures that can easily kill anyone and could live for up to 1000 years. It is so sickening and so disturbing, literally the images I saw in this movie won't quickly leave my mind I can tell you.

I won't tell you anymore than that as it would ruin the movie but, I will say, especially at this time of year, it is a lesson to the world that horrors like this must never happen again.

Truly horrendous, truly sickening and disturbing. Anyone that likes war movies or horror movies or just wants an insight to the true evil of the Nazis will want to see this movie. Truly epic and also truly disturbing, one of the best films of 2018 so far. Absolute must see but don't watch on a full stomach! Five stars easily awarded. Well done all involved.
