Annabelle Comes Home
***May contain spoilers***
Regular readers of this blog will know that I love the Conjuring movie series. Every movie in the series has been scary and outstanding. They are all, in my opinion pure 5 star films. I particularly like the Annabelle series of movies. So, I was quite excited to see the latest movie in the series, Annabelle Comes Home. So, what was it like?
Well, I'm pleased to report that, whilst not the best in the series, Annabelle Comes Home is another outstanding addition to the Conjuring movie series. It is scary and exciting and, put it this way, blink and the movie is over, it goes that fast! Now, bear in mind this is a 106 minute movie yet it feels like it's about half that time! Always the sign of a good film.
In terms of negatives, I don't really have any except it was nice to see the original two from the Conjuring movie and it's a shame they couldn't have been in the whole movie, just the start and end as they really are great actors. But that's a very minor complaint.
The main stars of this movie are the daughter of the original two, her babysitter and the babysitters friend. Basically, Annabelle has been stored in a glass cage in a strongly locked room in the basement of their house, along with lots of other items that are or were possessed by evil spirits.
What happens is the babysitters friend has recently lost her Dad in a tradegy she blames herself for, but she shouldn't. She wants to try to communicate with her Dad so finds the keys to the locked room and let's Annabelle out. You can imagine what happens next!
What is really disturbing about this movie is how all the different evil things the original two investigators have collected over the years come back to haunt their daughter. Why? Because Annabelle reactivates them. So, you get to see a lot of the evil things from previous Conjuring movies come back and that adds it's own unsettling element to proceedings.
As i previously said, this movie speeds by and that shows how good it is. The music is very eerie and builds just at the right points to heighten the tension, and the directing and acting is outstanding so well done all. This movie isn't as scary as some other Conjuring movies, but that's because it stars teenagers and is clearly aimed more at that market. That doesn't make it a bad movie though. I was nervous throughout because you simply didn't know what was around the next corner!
There isn't a lot I can say in this review except this is a great to watch, can't take your eyes off the screen horror movie and a must watch for all fans of the horror movie genre and the Conjuring movie series.
Well done all, brilliant movie, probably won't make my top ten of 2019 but an absolute must see for all fans of the genre. Well done all, 5 stars easily awarded.
